I'm very excited to announce that The Feminist Book Club Paris (The FBC Paris) will be meeting every month in the Shakespeare and Company bookshop, as of the 16th September. So what better moment to share with you the origins of The FBC and how you can become a part of it!
Let's rewind to earlier this year when I decided to create a book club with some friends. We all felt quite strongly about a) making an effort to read more female authors and b) continuing diverse feminist discussions. So the founding principle of The FBC has been, and will always be, to read books - written by women from all over the world - that highlight matters of interest to feminists; from work to relationships of all kinds, to prejudice, lack of representation and reproductive rights.
Since its first meet-up in March, The FBC has discussed 5 books and grown from 6 to 9 members. (If you’d like to see which books we have already discussed, I’ll link to our Instagram account at the end). And now, we start an exciting new chapter at Shakespeare and Company*, a dream location that I have previously declared my love for on this very blog. We’re thrilled at this opportunity to open up the feminist discussion even more, keeping feminism and literature accessible to all of you who want to get involved. There may even be tea and biscuits!
If you are a Paris-based, book-loving feminist then we would love for you to join The FBC. If you have any friends who fit the above profile then we would love for you to tell them about The FBC.
If you have any questions for us, please send them to email@example.com. If you'd like to register for upcoming sessions - we're staring with Dear Ijeawele - you can do so here. If you want to follow us on Instagram you can find us here.
Hope to see you soon! Lou x
*This opportunity came about thanks to Flora and Sadie, 2 members who work in and around S&Co. and inadvertently put The FBC on the bookshop's radar. For clarification purposes, The FBC Paris is not associated with the bookshop in any way - they are kindly opening up some space for us!
