This past Sunday I made my very first roast dinner for some girlfriends. I cooked it with a work buddy/fwiend, Veronica, and I have to say we did a pretty awesome job!
What was on our plates? Some roast potatoes, roast vegetables, roast beef (a really good cut of Charolais beef!) and Brussels Sprouts which, if I may point out, all 6 of us around the table liked very much. The gravy came from Marks and Sparks (gravy in a jar, who'd have thought it?) which was very practical given time / space restraints and BONUS - it tasted delicious! Dessert came from one of the guests, Louise, in the form of apple crumble and real custard (merci Louise). By the way, the French have their own version of custard called crème anglaise which is NOTHING LIKE custard. Taste it at your own peril.
There may also have been a pack of mince pies floating around but you should only believe that if you won't judge me for alluding to Christmas in late October.
A lovely Sunday afternoon spent with lovely people with an open bottle of wine never too far from our reach. I shall definitely be doing a roast dinner again and would love to introduce this fine British institution to Jon and our French gang ! If you would like to see how our meal looked just head over to my Instagram page : )
Unrelated to roast dinners completely, I was shocked to discover that my last post had gone up on the 6 October...I've just been keeping myself as busy as possible since Jon flew off to NYC two weeks ago. (Someone tried to tell me over the weekend that it was in fact only last weekend when he had left, so then I doubted my calculations and got a tad upset that there might be 6 weeks left to go!)
I shall make more efforts to blog this week. In fact I already know what my next post will be about so that's a good start and leaves me with no excuse.
I don't know about you, but I'm already looking forward to the weekend ! Lou xxx
