Sunday reading

March 1, 2015

sunday links Hi guys, how are you doing? It has been a long weekend as JB left on a business trip Saturday morning, and I'm struggling to adjust being in the apartment by myself. It's not the first time he has gone away but it always takes me a couple of days to fall into a healthy sleeping pattern and get used to his absence. Friends both near and far have been great as usual, making sure to be present or keep me company and I'm really grateful for that.  Anyway, I hope you've all been having a nice weekend and here is my weekly round-up of what has been on my radar, both online and offline, this past week. Lou xx

Grammar snobbery, are you prescriptive or descriptive? (Everyday Feminism)

How social media can make us more empathetic (The Washington Post)

Famous people fascinate me. I'm always a little cynical about what really goes on behind the veneer when they allow us a peek into their lives, but when Meg introduced me to Vogue's "73 questions" I was hooked. Anna Wintour. (Vogue)

Let's talk Pinterest - I am a huge fan. At the moment I am in love with Linda Lomelino's board. Feel free to leave suggestions for me in the comments section below as I'm always looking for new people to follow so.

This past week I celebrated my birthday and received some really thoughtful messages and presents. One that I really love is a bracelet with the word "luck" on it. (Delphine Pariente)

There's an Instagram account featuring attractive men on the Métro. I'm not sure how I feel about this. I believe it is intended to be a bit of fun and therefore don't want to be a party-pooper, but I feel like we'd be having a different discussion if this account featured women. One positive thing is that if you don't want to be featured you can ask to be removed. (The Local)

"Last night I dreamt I went to Manderley again". I have been wanting to spend some time with "Rebecca" once more so the wet and windy weather today in Montreuil was just the excuse I needed ☺ I absolutely love this cover design and the fact that Oscar wanted a piece of the action ❤🖤 #booksofinstagram #bibliophile #bookworm #rebecca #daphnedumaurier #bookstagram #viragopress #shakespeareandcompany
Change of scene for work today. Snapped on my way to the studio 😍#parisjetaime #thisisparis #mytinyatlas
Are you Paris based and looking to join a book club? Starting September 16, the feminist book club (The FBC) will be meeting every month at Shakespeare and Company in Paris! We read books - written by women from all over the world - that highlight matters of interest to feminists; from work to relationships of all kinds, to prejudice, lack of representation and reproductive rights. If you want to be a part of it I've popped the sign up link in my bio ☺#shakespeareandcompany #bookshopsoftheworld #sylviabeach #bookish

My weekend included a trip to the market for fresh fruit and veg, naps on the sofa with Oscar, re-reading bits of Sex Work Matters for book club, a(nother) yummy BBQ and lots of book chat 👌🏻Tell me, how was your weekend? 💕#weekend #homesweethome #catsofinstagram

"It seemed threatening now, the empty rooms and dusty spaces sinister, when so recently I had thought it beautiful. I couldn't help but believe it was playing tricks on me, trying to send me mad or drive me away." It's the summer of 1969 in the English countryside (Hampshire) and Frances Jellico's life is about to change forever. A socially awkward individual, she is invited to survey the gardens of a crumbling mansion, recently purchased by an American businessman. It is here where she meets glamorous couple, Cara and Peter, but the cracks in their idyllic romance soon start to appear. A wonderfully atmospheric novel from @writerclairefuller, which you'll particularly enjoy if you're a fan of Rebecca or The Little Stranger.

Throwing it back to beautiful Cascais last week. Because I doubt that you want to see all the unpacked boxes hanging around our new house 😬 (Link in profile for a new post on the past 5 years in Montreuil @lou_in_paris) #portugal #movinghouse #home
