Wine bar, restaurant, cellar
6 rue Marie Stuart, 75002 Paris
A good send off is very important. Ok, this wasn't a real send-off in the sense that someone is leaving Paris permanently. But we are leaving for a week or so for Christmas holidays, which totally counts right?
Leaving our bawdy British pub culture behind (which has a very special place in my heart and is good for the health a few times a year!) 2 girlfriends and I decided to French it up and hit a wine bar for our Christmas holiday toodlepip.
I don't know if the wine bar just recently opened or underwent a refurbishment, but either way it is a cute little place. Close to metro Sentier as well as Etienne Marcel, i appreciated the short walk where i was reminded how cute this area is, whatever the weather. I had flashbacks of summer evenings, going for a drink at a cute little café down some cobbled side street. In the winter, all the restaurants around are perfect for escaping the cold and seem like they serve delicious (and hearty!) French comfort food.
We all stuck to red wines and were incredibly brave, deciding not to go with a classic like we usually do (the Bourgogne Pinot Noir, great wine!). No! Instead we sent our palettes on a journey - to Italy, Argentina, Uruguay and Chile. Of course, we tried a French Savoie because we know where our wine loyalties lay! Incidentally the French wine was called "Mondeuse", which I don't believe is actually a word because it is not on Wordreference.com. But it reminds me of the French word for world (le monde) and seemed to fit perfectly our little international group. Small pleasures people!
They also had some delicious tapas and finger food, as well as the standard "assiettes" - plates of cheese, charcuterie or both - which we needed to soak up all the wine of course. The mini burgers were yummy and the bread + cheese + charcuterie formula is a win in our book!
A very lovely night out, which was brought to an end with a glass (or 2) of Bourgogne Pinot Noir. To be repeated!
JB and I are off to Lyon tonight, which i'm super duper excited about. Big sister Binns is joining us, so i'll shall be blogging next week with pictures of our Lyonnaise adventure : ) Hope you all have a fabulous end to the week and a lovely weekend before Christmas!
This really is the only workout i have in mind for the next week!
