“So please be sweet, my chickadee,
And when I kiss you, just say to me,
"It's delightful, it's delicious,
It's delectable, it's delirious,
It's dilemma, it's delimit, it's deluxe,
It's de-lovely’’

Last night, JB and I were kindly invited to Duc des Lombards by an old music school friend of mine, Mr. Anthony Strong. I had never been to this jazz bar before, so was very excited to check it out whilst seeing Anthony and his band doing their thing. Tony and I first met at school 10 years ago, and last saw each other 5 years ago when i was in London and needed a floor to sleep on after a holiday in Portugal!
The venue was small and cosy which created a friendly and intimate feeling. The colour of the decor was a nice warm red. We were sat by the bar, which was handy, but there were also seats very very close to the stage! The atmosphere was relaxed and supportive: it was clear everyone was there to enjoy the music and have a good time. The band were fantastic, displaying a real showcase of talent and looked like they were enjoying themselves! (I hope they were!)
I’m going to email Anthony for his full set list, but there were some great jazz classics such as
“Cheek to Cheek”, “My Ship”, and “Delovely”. He even sang some of his own material which perfectly showcased his talents as a songwriter! And Tony is not only very talented, he’s also happy to share the stage with other musicians, such as Hailey Tuck, who was invited on stage to sing a song with him.
Sadly, the set eventually came to an end and Tony was swarmed by his fan base, but we found some time to have a quick catch-up (and congratulate him on his perfectly pitched singing) over a cigarette - well, him and JB smoked, i’m almost 3 weeks nicotine free! Then we headed home with a swing in our step...
If you would like to find out more about Anthony Strong and his music, you can visit his website, you can follow him on Twitter or like his Facebook page.
Me, i'm off to visit iTunes and download some Chet Baker, Cole Porter, Jamie Cullum, and of course Anthony Strong!! Thanks Tony for the invite, it was great to see you do your thing, and may your career continue to grow and grow!
